Pocahontas Redskins participate in the Greene County Tech Invitational

On Tuesday, Dec. 10, the Pocahontas Redskins swim team participated in the Greene County Tech Invitational in Paragould. Abbigail Percifull swam the 200 Free, placing second with a 2:23.24 and she swam the 100 Free, also placing second with a 1:07.54. Audrie Gann swam the 50 Free, finishing fifth with a 32.36 and she swam the 100 Breast, finishing sixth with a 1:40.60. Chloe Fort swam the same two events as Audrie. Chloe swam a 38.72 for 14th place in the 50 Free and a 2:08.30 in the 100 Breast for 11th place. Lauren Olson swam a 1:17.58 in the 100 Fly for third place and she swam a state qualifying time and broke her own school record in the 500 Free finishing second with a 6:05.58. The girls joined together to swim the 200 Free Relay and the 400 Free Relay. Both relays came in second. In the 200 Free Relay, their time was 2:11.39 and for the 400 Free Relay, they swam a 5:11.69.

Jr. Lady Redskins still unbeaten: Sr. Lady Redskins fall to Newport

The Pocahontas Jr. Lady Redskins remain perfect on the season improving to 7-0 with a 53-7 win over the Newport Jr. Lady Greyhounds. Newport had no answer for the Redskins defensive pressure and were forced into numerous turnovers. Aubrey Coffey led Pocahontas with 19 points, Brayleigh Carter added 11, Adrienne Mahan had 10, Sydney Percifull had eight, Lexi Ring and Emma Conway had two each and Aly Winslow chipped in one.

Lady Greyhounds knock off Riverside on Rylee Brown buzzer beater

It was a night Sloan-Hendrix Freshman Rylee Brown will not soon forget. Her desperation three point shot from 30 feet caromed off the backboard as time expired, hit the front and back of the rim, and rolled around before dropping in. With the buzzer sounding and the backboard lit up Brown’s shot stunned the second seeded Riverside Lady Rebels 50-49. The win propelled third seeded Sloan-Hendrix to the finals of the WBU High School Tournament to face the top seeded Salem Greyhounds.

PHS Sr. Boys’ opens season with win in Current River Challenge

With the football helmets and pads put away the 2024-25 Pocahontas Sr. Boys’ basketball season began with a 52-47 win over the Bakersfield, MO Lions in the Current River Challenge at Van Buren, MO., Friday, Nov. 29. Not only would this be the first game of the season for the Sr. Redskins but also the first game for new head coach Chris Pilz, as the Missouri Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame member comes from Waynesville, MO to Pocahontas.
