Three Pocahontas Redskins sign college letters of intent to play ball
For Kaydra Cole, softball has been more than just a game—it’s been a lifelong passion. From the time she first picked up a glove at age four to now leading the Pocahontas Redskins as head coach, Cole’s journey through the sport has shaped her into the person and leader she is today.
Selected to the Jr. Girls 1A - 3 All Conference team is the entire Maynard Jr. Girls starting lineup including (L-R:) Zoey Godwin, Maddie Koons, Jadyn Myers, Lunden Ulmer and Hannah Tennison.
Pocahontas hosted the 4A-1A East Conference Championship Swim Meet on Monday, Feb. 10 at the Pocahontas Aquatic Center. Other teams in the 4A-1A East Conference include Brookland, Hoxie, Walnut Ridge, and Westside.
The Maynard Jr. Lady Tigers won the 1A - 3 District Tournament defeating Hillcrest and completing the season at 28-3 and going a perfect 14-0 in conference play.
The second seeded Pocahontas Jr. Lady Redskins dropped a 28-18 decision to the third seeded Brookland Jr Lady Bearcats in the 4A - 3 Jr Girls District Tournament at Westside, Thursday, Feb. 13.
On Thursday, Feb. 6, the Pocahontas Redskins Swim Team traveled to Lonoke to compete in the North Little Rock HIgh School February Invite. In the 200 Medley Relay, the relay team of Audrie Gann, Blake Hall, Lauren Olson, and Chloe Fort, placed second with a 2:19.09. Lauren won the 200 Free with a 2:20.44. In the 50 Free, Blake came in second with a 29.59, Audrie was fifth with a 32.98, and Chloe placed seventh with a 38.03. In the 100 Fly, Lauren broke her school record, swimming a 115.18, finishing in second place. Chloe swam a 2:02.03 and came in fifth. Blake won the 100 Free with a 1:07.26. The 200 Free Relay team of Blake, Audrie, Chloe, and Lauren took second with a 2:08.18.
The stage was set for another Redskin upset at Schoonover Fieldhouse Tuesday, Feb. 11, but early in the game it looked like anything but. After the first four minutes of play the Westside Warriors took an 8-0 lead and it looked as if Westside, who defeated Pocahontas 76-44 three weeks earlier, was about to cruise to another repeat win. But on Senior Night, with the Redskin band and a rowdy student Jungle in the house, Senior Mason Priest hit a three pointer at the buzzer and Pocahontas cut the lead to 17-15 at the end of the first quarter.
The 2025 baseball/softball registration is underway with a deadline of March 2. Forms can be picked up and returned to Pocahontas City Hall during regular business hours Monday through Friday.
