There are a few things in life you can always count on: awards banquets running long, newspaper folks swapping deadlines war stories, and me—ordering room service like it’s my full-time job. This past weekend’s trip to Memphis for the Tri-State Newspaper conference checked every single box.

Mike usually doesn’t go back outside after he showers in the evening. The other night he showered and walked to the front door. I questioned “Where are you going?” He said “OUT!” and then laughed and said “Did you ever say that when you were growing up?” Ummm, no. I liked living.


State Capitol in Review
Tuition will increase at almost all Arkansas universities and colleges in the fall. The University of Arkansas System Board of Trustees has approved tuition and fees for the school year that begins in the fall of 2025. The system comprises five four-year universities, several colleges in the medical school, an online university and eight two-year colleges. More than 70,000 students are enrolled. The system employs 28,000 people and has a total budget of more than $4 billion.

Or maybe you’ve hollered at him from the bleachers while he was blowing his whistle in stripes and calling your kid for traveling. But to me? He’s Daddy. And Papa. And the guy who can grow a better tomato than Mother Nature herself.
