This past weekend, our house was taken over by a tiny, ponytailed whirlwind of pink glitter and giggles. Our only granddaughter, Emmalyn, made the 11-hour trek (fine, her parents drove her, but let’s not pretend they were the real guests of honor) to celebrate her fourth birthday. And let me tell you, this JenJen was in absolute heaven.

This week, the House voted 96-0 in favor of a bill to increase the Homestead Property Tax Credit. HB1534 increases the credit from $500 to $600 effective January 1, 2025.

Remember the day Walmart locally introduced self-checkout registers? The world might not have been ending, but we were right there at the line of it. There were shouts of, “They don’t pay me to work here!” and “Where’s my discount card?” Honestly, I understood the frustration. It was a change we weren’t expecting — one that felt abrupt, impersonal and, for some, unnecessary.

I was sitting in bed taking my medicine this morning when I realized I must have dropped a pill. I picked up the small white object off my comforter and popped it in my mouth before it registered it wasn’t a pill, it was a piece of popcorn I dropped in bed last night. with Jana Caldwell We brought TC in our room and bath last night and closed the door. We let her spend the night in there instead of her regular spare room set up. She had so much fun. So snuggly, happy and carefree. That was until Butterbean’s drugs wore off this morning and she threw her demon self at the bedroom door… Mike and I were talking about the olden days of late night dining. Pulling up to Crown Food at 2am for one of their mouth watering fried burritos. Best food in the south after an all night event on the banks of Current River or a cabin on Eleven Point. We decided to recreate those tonight. Got all the fixins for them. I’ll report back after we make them but something tells me it was not the caliber of burrito we had but the caliber of party we had attended that made them so good.
