But, did you know that peanut butter is one of the most requested donations by food banks? First United Methodist Church is asking everyone to spread a little love by collecting peanut butter, and jelly too, this July.

This past weekend’s journey found me, again, near the banks of the mighty Mississippi River as I explored the oldest town in Missouri, Ste. Genevieve. Named after the patron saint of Paris, the 282-year-old town is full of old French Creole Colonial style structures, one-of-a-kind gifts shops, bars, taverns, restaurants, and museums. Sound like Heaven on Earth? It is.

I’d never cried before, over my dad, until I shared with my youngest granddaughter, a few weeks back at lunch right there in the middle of Sumo’s Restaurant, and I broke down, and couldn’t stop crying, it was about the story I had written about meeting my dad for the first time in my life. Written on January 21st this year on a cold and icy night, much alone time and a bout of cabin fever, thoughts of him just crowded in and I let them ramble around in my mind.

I used to love donuts but haven’t been eating them since I’ve been lowering the amount of fat I eat. I was pleased to find you can bake donuts, not just deep fry them and I ordered Donut baking pans. I was surprised to learn there is a national “Donut Day”. I’ll note it on my calendar so I don’t miss it next year. In 1938 “Donut Day” was established as a way to honor the members of the Salvation Army that came to the aid of soldiers during World War I. Nowadays, National Donut Day is widely celebrated on the first Friday of June. These recipes were included with the pans.
