A local high school environmental science class has been awarded a grant of more than $5,000 to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students.

A local high school environmental science class has been awarded a grant of more than $5,000 to enhance hands-on learning opportunities for students.

The Randolph County Quorum Court met on Jan. 16 with all members present, including newly elected justices Mistina Hibbard, Jill Henderson and David Blevins. Also in attendance were County Judge Ben Wicker, Treasurer Dennis Calaway, County Attorney Ryan Wallace and County Clerk Rhonda Blevins.

Don Brodell has served the Arkansas Activities Association in various roles for more than 25 years but his run will come to an end as he has announced his decision to retire this summer.

The Pocahontas Redskins Swim Team competed at the Greene County Tech Invitational on Jan. 16.

The Pocahontas City Council convened for its January meeting Tuesday at 5:30 p.m., with all council members in attendance, including newly elected members Danny Swann and Tim Scott. Both were elected to four-year terms in November 2024. This marks Swann’s second term, having served previously for four years, and Scott’s return to the council after nearly a decade away following 20 years of prior service.

Buttercream Bakery hosted its highly anticipated re-grand opening on Jan. 13, drawing a crowd that filled the parking lot and overflowed into the bakery. The event was a testament to the community’s support for owner Misti Stowers and her dedicated staff.

Officer Slade Weisenbach was awarded the Randolph County Officer of the Year. Prosecuting Attorney Devon Holder recognized Weisenbach’s efforts with the 3rd Judicial Drug Task Force.

This yearâs Sheriffâs Office Toy Drive made the holiday season brighter for dozens of families in the community. Thanks to the generosity of local residents, the initiative provided Christmas gifts and holiday meals to 79 children across 34 families in Randolph County.
The Pocahontas School District Board of Education met for its regular monthly meeting on Monday, Dec. 16. The meeting, led by Superintendent Lance Arbuckle, addressed reorganization, financial updates and policy approvals.
