The Black Rock Foothills Festival will take place in downtown Black Rock October 10-11. Friday’s activities include go kart racing at Bobby Humes Memorial Speedway at 7 p.m., with the Black Rock Fire Department ham and bean supper at the school cafeteria from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday will consist of craft and food vendors, go kart racing, games, activities and live music by Fallen Within and Bloodline. Saturday morning will be the Lion’s Club Pancake Breakfast from 6 to 10 a.m. in the school cafeteria.

The Pocahontas City Council met Aug. 12, covering a wide range of updates, proposals, and resolutions during its regular monthly meeting. Mayor Keith Futrell called the meeting to order, and with no public comments, the council approved the July meeting minutes and financial reports.

The 45th Annual Maynard Pioneer Days is set for September 18 through September 20. Activities planned for the weekend include: Pioneer Prince and Pioneer Princess winners announced, baked goods contest and auction, parade, political speakers, blacksmiths demonstrations, craft and food vendors, bounce house, petting zoo, turkey shoot and live music by Finley Watkins and Dixon Street.
