COVID-19 numbers rise

At press time, on Wednesday, January 12, the total number of COVID-19 positives in Randolph County had reached 237, with over 64,000 active positive cases statewide. According to Lori Bergman, administrator of the Randolph County Health department, area schools have reinstated mask mandates, while her office is testing around 50 a day.

Tyler is JP candidate

Chris Tyler, a Randolph County resident, has announced his plans for running for Randolph County Justice of the Peace (District 9). Married to his wife, Jamie, the couple have one son, a daughter, and a son in law, who were all raised in Randolph County.

Staff Spotlight: Bridgette Rose

Bridgette Rose, BRTC’s Administrative Specialist for the Law Enforcement Training Academy, earned a Bachelor of Science in Marketing from Arkansas State University. She began working at BRTC in 2014 as the Grants Coordinator and moved to the position she holds today in 2016.

New Scholarship formed

POCAHONTAS, AR Jan. 7 – BRTC is excited to announce that longtime Randolph County educator Willa Jenkins and her husband, owner of Jenkins Welding, Kenneth Jenkins are offering a $400 scholarship to students who have graduated with their GED from BRTC’s Pocahontas Adult Education Program and are enrolling in the welding or nursing programs. Kenneth and Willa’s children are BRTC graduates, earning degrees in welding and nursing.

Volunteer?

There are many reasons for parents to encourage children who express an interest in volunteering. Volunteering is a social activity that can help children develop their social and networking skills, and many parents credit volunteering with instilling a sense of perspective in their children that they might not have gained had they not been exposed to people from different backgrounds. Volunteering also has been linked to stronger academic performance.
