There will be a meeting for those interested in helping with the 150th Birthday Celebration for the Old Randolph County Courthouse on Thursday, January 20 at 6pm at the Star Herald office. This will just be an idea gathering meeting.

The Pocahontas Public School Board met on January 6 at the Pocahontas Junior High Campus for a special board meeting. Lesa Grooms provided the members of the board with an update on current Covid numbers.
The mighty Redskins fell to the Valley View Blazers at Pocahontas High School last Thursday night. A hard-fought game, the Redskins were defeated 43-40.
The Pocahontas City Council met on Tuesday, January 11, for their regular monthly meeting. With all members of the council, city attorney, and all elected city officials present, the meeting was called to order by Mayor Keith Sutton.
At the recent Pocahontas City Council meeting, Mayor Keith Sutton announced his proclamation to declare the city of Pocahontas a Purple Heart City. With approval from the council, the proclamation was accepted.

There are many reasons for parents to encourage children who express an interest in volunteering. Volunteering is a social activity that can help children develop their social and networking skills, and many parents credit volunteering with instilling a sense of perspective in their children that they might not have gained had they not been exposed to people from different backgrounds.
