Chad Burdin, resident of Randolph County, has announced his intentions for running for Randolph County Judge. Burdin, who is married to Rosella Wallace Burdin, has lived in Randolph County for over 20 years and feels his experiences in engineering, maintenance management and construction gives him the qualifications necessary to be the county CEO.
· The Rose Bowl, which remains one of college football’s most celebrated events, ends in a 0-0 tie on January 2. The Washington & Jefferson Patriots and California Golden Bears are each considered unofficial champions of the 1921 college football campaign.
Randolph County Treasurer since 2009, Sherry Huskey has announced her intentions to seek another term of office in the 2022 elections. Sherry grew up in Maynard and has lived most of her life in the Maynard and Supply areas of the county. The last few years she has lived in Pocahontas.
Randolph County’s most iconic architectural feature will experience its sesquicentennial in 2022. The 1872 county courthouse that sits in the middle of the Downtown National Historic District will be 150 years old soon.

December 18, 2021, the Moose Lodge in Pocahontas held a Christmas Party for members and their tiny guests. Santa arrived at 4 p.m. and was well received by all the children in attendance. The Children told Santa their Christmas wishes and received a gift from Santa. Pizza and snacks were enjoyed, and the children made Christmas Cards to send to Moose heart. Moose heart is a residential home for children it is 38 miles west of Chicago.
Around 2 p.m. on Tuesday, January 4, the driver of a truck hauling a trailer of aluminum tubing made an unexpected short turn, losing the trailer wheels in the ditch, cause the trailer to overturn. Departments from the city of Pocahontas and Winebaugh’s Competition Towing assisted in the clean-up.
The Downtown Network of Pocahontas will soon be asking for volunteers to help plan, organize and execute the task of planning a celebration to honor the 150th birthday of the Old Randolph County Courthouse.
