Two honored at MLK Commission Event

Two Pocahontas women, Pat Johnson and Dr. Jan Ziegler, were among those honored recently at the Arkansas Martin Luthe King, Jr. Commission at the Nonviolence Youth Summit in Batesville. The commemorative King Week 2022 event included recognition of the two for their work in support of the Commission: to promote and preserve the life and legacy of Dr. King in our state; and to promote the principles of nonviolence and equality among all citizens.”

Community Scholars Training: Eddie Mae Herron Center

The Community Scholars Program of Arkansas Folk and Traditional Arts is a free training opportunity for Arkansans interested in finding, documenting, and presenting community culture, folklife, and traditional arts. Participants will gain skills in documenting and researching culture; archiving and presenting research; and developing projects in collaboration with community stakeholders. We aim to prepare Community Scholars to feel confident in developing projects such as: oral history collections, exhibits large and small, web and digital content, cultural surveys/inventories on community traditions, and more.

Last year, the library gained 320 new patrons. The number of E-books checked out during the month of December was 865, while a total of 37,815 books were checked out throughout the year. There were 2,927 books added to circulation.

VFW Singing Contest

VFW Auxiliary #4556 is excited to announce our national anthem singing contest, Get Excited for the Red, White and Blue! Youth in grades K-12 can showcase their talent, display their patriotism and express their creativity while competing for their share of $2,000 in national awards. Contestants must submit a video of their solo vocal performance of The Star Spangled Banner.
