ADOPTACAT—AND ENCOURAGE FRIENDS AND FAMILYTO DO THE SAME: 1. Giving a home to a cat who needs one: According to Humane World for Animals (formerly known as the Humane Society of the United States,) every year 2.7 million animals are euthanized in shelters. Every cat that’s adopted makes a dent in that number, and helps make room for another fuzzy friend who needs help. And the increasing rate of natural disasters means that even more animals needing homes are landing in shelters . We have a motto. Always adopt.

Lake Charles State Park to host guided kayak tour

Lake Charles State Park will host a guided kayak tour July 5 & 26, led by a park interpreter, visitors will meet at the fishing pier near the boat ramp for a brief intro to kayaking before heading out on the water (weather permitting). All equipment is provided, wear clothes and shoes that can get wet and bring plenty of drinking water. Reservations are required and can be made at the visitor center or by calling (870) 878-6595.

ACA seeking interns for convention

The Arkansas Cattlemen’s Association is looking for interns for their Annual Convention and Trade Show for the week of Aug. 4-9. The internship will cover Little Rock and Hot Springs. Interns are expected to prepare for and then execute the convention event plan set forth by the staff. The week long internship is unpaid, but housing and food for the week will be provided. BRTC team attends Juneteenth Festival

A team from Black River Technical College (BRTC) attended the Juneteenth Festival at Riverfront Park on June 14. The festival was held by the Eddie Mae Herron Center and had multiple different vendors, activities, and performances. Representing BRTC was Jason Smith, Vice President of Student Affairs; Candy Taylor, DOL Grant Project Director; Mark Towell, Academic Counselor; and Drake Mc-Grew, Academic Counselor.

Palestine Church of Christ vandalized

The Palestine Church of Christ was recently vandalized. According to a source, a shotgun was used to damage the pulpit and went through the wall. Damage was done to the communion table along with items on the table. There were also numerous holes knocked through the walls of the church. A report has been filed with the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department and evidence was collected to be processed. If anyone has any information regarding this incident, please contact the Randolph County Sheriff’s Department.
