Pocahontas gears up for Juneteenth Celebration at the Eddie Mae Herron Center

The anticipation is building as the community of Pocahontas prepares to commemorate Juneteenth, a significant milestone in American history, at the Eddie Mae Herron Center on June 17. With a focus on family fun and cultural celebration, the center’s director, Pat Johnson, expressed her excitement for this year’s Juneteenth Community Celebration.

WestRidge Church of Christ’s Food Bank: Nourishing the community through compassion and collaboration

Two decades ago, Mae Meeks, a compassionate member of the WestRidge Church of Christ, identified a pressing need within her community. With the simple desire to help those who lacked access to food, she reached out to her fellow church members, requesting donations of canned goods. Whenever someone found themselves in need, Mae or the preacher would distribute three or four cans in a humble Walmart bag.

Lake Charles Fishing Derby June 10

Lake Charles State Park will host its annual free fishing weekend derby, sponsored by the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission, on Saturday, June 10, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the park, 3705 Highway 25, Powhatan. Registration is required in person at the pavilion in the day-use area from 9 to 10 a.m.

Warm Springs Cemetery update

MES has Summer Reading Blast

Maynard Elementary School held a Summer Reading Blast, on Tuesday, May 23, 2023. Guests from the Randolph County Library promoted their Summer Reading Program themed Bug Scouts, by crafting Bug Masks with PreK, kindergarten and first grade students, playing Insect Bingo with second and third graders and playing What’s My Insect? with grades 4-6.
