As the holiday shopping season nears the end, local businesses in Pocahontas are reporting sales that remain consistent with previous years, resisting concerns about the impact of online giants on traditional brick-andmortar establishments.
Maynard Elementary School announced today that it has earned Highly Effective Schools Accreditation from Solution Tree. This accreditation is a significant achievement that reflects Maynard Elementary School’s commitment to reaching and maintaining the highest levels of educational quality. Maynard Elementary School earned this accreditation by maintaining and growing identified areas that have the biggest impact on student learning and growth. These areas are directly aligned with the Professional Learning Communities at Work (PLC) process and the High Reliability SchoolsTM (HRS) framework.
VFW Auxiliary #4556 will hold it’s annual 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest for students in grades 9-12. Students must be enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home school program in the United States, its territories and possessions, or dependents of U.S.military or civilian personnel in overseas schools.
Black River Technical College (BRTC) is set to commemorate its 50th anniversary with a public event on Thursday, December 14, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. The festivities will take place in the Pocahontas room of the Richard Gaines Business and Technology Building.

Their Cornerstone Christmas Tree Farm, settled on the family’s land, has swiftly become the hub of festive cheer, attracting families from near and far to select their perfect Christmas tree, shop at the cottage on the property and make lasting holiday memories.
The VFW Auxiliary, includes men as well. On Apr. 21, 2015, the National Headquarters of the VFW Auxiliary officially changed the name of the VFW Ladies Auxiliary to the Auxiliary. The change acknowledges that women have served in the military, enabling their family members to join the auxiliary. Additionally, any non-combat veteran can join the auxiliary to support the organization.
