A 115-Year Legacy of Service to Community

It was a quiet morning in the old Randolph County Bank Office in mid-March 1908. Outside a cold rain fell steadily. There were few customers that morning. The bank’s young assistant cashier, Lantie Martin, gazed thoughtfully through the window across court square…at the mud streets, the courthouse with its iron picket fence to keep out the hogs and cattle, and the brick buildings, which lined the south and west sides of the square.

Futrell announces his candidacy for mayor

Pocahontas Mayor Keith Futrell has officially declared his candidacy for mayor of Pocahontas for the upcoming May election. This decision comes in the wake of the passing of Mayor Keith Sutton in Dec. Following Mayor Sutton’s recommendation, the city council appointed Futrell as vice-mayor, and in a special meeting on Dec. 29, the council voted to designate Futrell as the acting mayor.

Eclipse event meeting

The Star Herald invites community members interested in organizing an event around the April 8 North American Solar Eclipse to attend a planning meeting. The gathering will take place at The Star Herald office, located in the old train depot building at 210 McDonald, on Monday, Jan. 22, at 5 p.m.
