Hope Ball 2024 a complete success
The 9th annual Hope Ball, on Jan. 27 at the James Ranch, was a complete success, where the giving soared to new heights. This fundraising gala, dedicated to supporting the non-profit Bridge of Hope Ministries, achieved a remarkable feat by surpassing the $40,000 mark on its special night.

Maynard School accepting bids to tear down building
Dr. Amy Jackson, Superintendent of Schools for the Maynard School District, announced that the junior high building, a structure built in the late 1930s under the Works Progress Administration (WPA) program, is scheduled for demolition. The WPA, a New Deal agency during the Great Depression, aimed to provide employment through various public works projects, including the construction of schools.

Dr. Lance Arbuckle, superintendent of the Pocahontas Public School District, proudly declares PHS has been named as a distinguished honoree among the best schools. The recognition comes from the annual analysis conducted by US News and World Reports, evaluating high schools on various fronts like state test scores, participation in Advanced Placement (AP) courses, qualifying AP scores, graduation rates and even considering poverty levels within the school boundary area.

BRTC Faculty recognized at ASRC Annual Conference
Black River Technical College (BRTC) Respiratory Care faculty and students recently travelled to Hot Springs where they attended the Arkansas Society for Respiratory Care Annual Conference (ASRC). BRTC Respiratory Care Instructor Jessica Alphin was awarded Clinical Educator of the Year, and BRTC’s Dean of Allied Health, Jason Linam, was awarded Practitioner of the Year.

Samantha Mitchell accepts promotion
Black River Technical College (BRTC) is pleased to announce Samantha Mitchell of Pocahontas has been promoted to the position of Career Coach at Walnut Ridge High School. Mitchell earned a Bachelor of Science in Radio/ TV Broadcasting Journalism from ASU and a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies from the University of North Texas.

BRTC Fire Science to hold chili cookoff fundraiser
The Black River Technical College (BRTC) fire science program will hold a chili cookoff fundraiser on Friday, February 9 at the Randolph County Development Center on the Pocahontas campus. Festivities will include local fire stations competing to see who makes the best chili, and a silent auction.
