Joyce Faylene Kelsoe Reeves, 84, of Jonesboro, passed from this life Sunday, February 12, 2023, at St. Bernards Regional Medical Center in Jonesboro. She was born to Henry Thomas and Alice Estelle (Page) Kelsoe. Joyce retired from East Area Agency on Aging; then delivered for Meals on Wheels. She thoroughly enjoyed reading and studying the Bible.
Bernard Andrew Baltz was born January 4, 1930, in Pocahontas, Arkansas, to Ambrose Joseph Baltz (1897-1993) and Anna Matczak Baltz (1895-1980). He was the third child and grew up in their house on Convent Street with his siblings Ambrose (Junior), Rosemary, Dolores, Jane, Paul (Bub) and Pauline (Cissy).
An icon has fallen in Maynard, Arkansas. From 1968- 2007 Herb Early was an abiding presence in the lives of Maynard School District’s young people.
Raymond Linn “Ray” Bly, age 67, of Jefferson City, Mo., went home to his Lord and Savior on January 27, 2023, from complications related to oral cancer. A devoted Christian, he was a member of First Baptist Church.
Bernard Andrew Baltz, Sr., 93, of Pocahontas, AR, died on January 26, 2023. He was born in Pocahontas to the late Ambrose and Anna Matczak Baltz on January 4, 1930. He graduated from St. Paul High School in Pocahontas and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from St. Louis University. He spent his life in various aspects of the farming business and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was a long-time member and a Paul Harris Fellow of Pocahontas Rotary Club. He was active in Boy Scouts and served in numerous roles at St. Paul Catholic Church. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus. His Catholic faith and his family were his greatest treasures.
Alta Mary Alice Crow, 89, of Pocahontas, passed from this life on Friday, January 27, 2023. She was born in Stonewall on May 6, 1933, to the late Dan and Mary Roush. Alta married Lawrence Crow on March 7, 1950. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith. Alta enjoyed reading, and she had a love for flowers. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Brant Crow; daughters, Margaret Vandergriff and Shelia Crow; grandson, Cody Crow; sisters, Eula Howe and Lola Crow; and brother, Jones Roush.
Geneva V. Hill, 92, of Pocahontas, passed from this life on Monday, January 23, 2023 at Randolph County Nursing Home. She was born on July 25, 1930, to the late Melvin and Ruth Young. She married Thomas “Tom” Hill on October 11, 1947. After Tom’s passing in 1976, Geneva never remarried. She poured herself into her family. She would “light up” every time her grandchildren and great grandchildren came to visit. Geneva enjoyed quilting, word searches, and talking on the phone. She retired from TRW Cinch in Pocahontas. Geneva was preceded in death by her parents; husband; daughters, Wanda Sue Hill and Georgia Shoe; son, Otis Ray Hill; granddaughter, Felicia Fleming; brothers, Earl, Paul, Ray, and Gerald Young; and sister, Juanita Young.
So, there’s this belief out in the universe that life begins at 40. With exactly two months to go in my 30s, I thought it might be time to reflect on my life and plan for the future.
Jeanie Wilma Luffman, 92, of Ravenden Springs, passed from this life on Sunday, January 22, 2023, at Randolph County Nursing Home in Pocahontas. She was born May 7, 1930, in Toledo, Ohio. She was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church in Pocahontas.
James Levi Rice, age 28, of Aurora, Missouri, passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023, as a result of injuries received in an automobile accident in Monett, Missouri. He was born January 9, 1994, in Jonesboro, Arkansas, the son of Sherry Tribble and Charles Rice. Levi attended Monett High School. He was baptized in Pocahontas, Arkansas and was a Christian. His passion was to have his video game developed. He loved a good novel and could finish reading one in a day. Levi had a huge heart and loved his family above all else.
