Popular choice for first place honors in the transportation division of the “50 Years of Progress” parade which kicked off the annual Buffalo Island Fair and Livestock Show in Monette Friday morning was this ancient covered wagon, occupied by two men nearly 100 years old. At left is J. E. Blankenship, 92, oldest resident of Buffalo Island and a pioneer settler. At right is A. A. Sago, 96, of Pocahontas, oldest resident of Randolph County and grandfather of Clayborn Tipton of Monette.
Mr. Sago, familiarly known to his many friends here as “Uncle Al”, is one of the county’s most beloved citizens. Despite the fact that he is 96 years of age, he looks many years younger and is in excellent health. His birthdays are always celebrated by large family get-togethers and fine dinners.
