The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas received $10,000 from Arkansas Farm Bureau Foundation to purchase food to be distributed in Poinsett and Cross County. According to Rebecca Hendrix, Chief Development Officer of the Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas, there are approximately 62,540 people in the Food Bank’s twelve-county service area living with food insecurity.

The Gosnell Pirates brought the “Cam Williams Show” to Schoonover Stadium on the last Friday of September and left town with a 26-6 win over the hometown Pocahontas Redskins. Williams, a highly sought after college prospect, led the Pirates (4-1, 1-1 conference) in rushing with 189 yards and a touchdown on 21 carries. He was also 8-of-9 passing for 95 yards and a touchdown, plus returned an interception 95 yards for a touchdown.

The Pocahontas City Council met in a special meeting to discuss the leasing of a piece of the city’s property. The purpose of this special meeting was to discuss a proposal/lease agreement for the Waterloo/Pinnacle Building located at 1612 Hwy.

Harold John Ungerank, 82, of Maynard, passed away October 2, 2023, at Arkansas Methodist Medical Center in Paragould. Harold was born April 14, 1941, to the late Mike Ungerank and Anna Steimel Ungerank in Engelberg.

The 30th Annual Proventus/ BRTC Foundation Golf Tournament, held Friday, September 29 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas, was a great success, raising record proceeds of over $53,000. Proceeds from the event are used by the BRTC Foundation to fund student scholarships. Winners of the morning Championship Flight were 1st, Kirk Scobey and Kelly Scobey; 2nd, Trent Smith and Jacob Hestor; and 3rd, Matt Sullivan and James Sullivan. Winners of the morning A Flight were 1st, Scott Bransom and Terry Verkler III; 2nd, Brandon Meadows and Jack McCord; and 3rd, Jack Deloach and Clint Deloach. Winners of the B Flight were 1st, Jacob Kersey and Darenda Kersey; 2nd, Garett Guthrie and Bryan Doss; and 3rd, Michael Stern and Tina Disano. Closest-to-the-pin winners were Kirk Scobey on Hole 2, Bill Bailey on Hole 3, Kelly Scobey on Hole 7, Fred Cole on Hole 12, and Trent Smith on Hole 15.

The Wings of Honor Museum will celebrate the 81st Anniversary of the beginning of flight training at the former WWII Walnut Ridge Air Field on Saturday, Oct. 14th. The air field was authorized by the War Department in Washington, May 12, 1942. Exactly five months later, October 12, 1942, the first class of Aviation Cadets marched to the flight line at 1:00 p.m., to meet their new training planes: Vultee BT13s.
As alumni and friends began arriving on the evening of Saturday, Sept. 16, for the 33rd Maynard Alumni and Friends Reunion, there was enthusiasm and excitement as they greeted one another. For some, it was a reunion after a few years, while for others, it marked a reunion since graduation. This event saw the largest attendance in many years, spanning across different age groups.
