Rep. Trey Steimel honored with 2023 Statesman Award

In a ceremony held at the Arkansas State Capital, The Family Council Action Committee presented Representative Trey Steimel (R-Pocahontas), with the group’s 2023 Statesman Award. Representative Steimel received the award for earning an A on the 2023 Family Council Action Committee legislative report card.

When publishing an article last week concerning a local elected official and the current events surrounding him and a few local churches, I knew I would probably receive a few words of disdain. Loretta Blankenship

A celebration of life memorial service was held Saturday, October 7th, 2023, at 10:30 am, at New Hope Assembly of God Church, 133 Helter Road (off Hwy 90, across from the hospital). Pocahontas, AR for Loretta Sue Blankenship. She was the fourth daughter, in a line of five girls born to Remel and Leona (Haynes) Blankenship. She departed this life January 13, 2023, in Mahomet, IL, surrounded by her family. She was being treated for Pancreatic Cancer and had been placed in Hospice care two days before passing. She was 77 years of age and was born November 26, 1945, in Egypt, Arkansas.

Virginia Suhm

Virginia Suhm, 88 of Conway, AR passed away Sunday, October 8, 2023 at Conway Healthcare and Rehab in Conway AR. She was born on September 6, 1935 in Pocahontas, AR to the late Ralph H.

BRTC warded $1.8 million grant from DOE

Black River Technical College (BRTC) was recently awarded roughly $1.8 million through the Department of Education (DOE) under the Strengthening Institutions Grant Program. The grant spans five years and will fund a project entitled, “Building the Workforce: Implementing a Career Services Program and Durable Skills Curriculum.” Through this project, BRTC will establish a comprehensive Career Services Program which will include hiring a full-time Director of Student Workforce Readiness.

Library hosts fun at Pocahontas Community’s Trunk or Treat

The Randolph County Library (RCL) is thrilled to join the festivities at the Pocahontas community’s Trunk or Treat celebration this Halloween on Oct. 31, from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the Square will convert into a Halloween wonderland, brimming with decorations, candy and family-friendly activities.
