Jeanie Oaks
Alvester Jean “Jeanie” Oaks was born June 12, 1944, to Emily Virginia Beavers, and Ralph Wimbish in Walnut Ridge Arkansas. She died on June 4, 2024, in Pocahontas, Arkansas. She was one of nine children. Jeanie was preceded in death by her mother, father, and one brother.
Jean was known for her quilting, making fudge, rum cakes, divinity, and sweets. She was a caregiver and nurturer who ensured her siblings, her children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews felt loved. She welcomed everyone into her home. She was always sure those visiting her home had a meal to eat, even when your visit was a surprise. Jeanie worked many jobs early in her life but found her true calling when she became a social worker. She served as Administrative Officer at Black River Area Development (BRAD) for over 38 years. She also ran the homeless shelter and food pantry in Pocahontas helping family members in their time of need. Jeanie retired from BRAD September 30, 2016. Jeanie worked with others to help get historical designation for the Eddie Mae Herron as well as served as Treasurer for Center.
She leaves behind her children, Anita Prince, Teresa Oaks, Marvin Oaks Jr., and Kelly Oaks. Ex-husband Marvin Oaks Sr. (Red) Three grandchildren Schatoya Prince, Tyreese Oaks, and Miles Snider. Five sisters, Patricia Thompson (Larry (deceased), Christola Johnson (Lewis), Shirley (Don)Willis Myles, Joyce Manuel (Willie) and Carolyn Beavers, and two brothers Arvel Wimbish, and James Wimbish (Penny).
Visitation will be held 12:00 – 2:00 PM Saturday June 15, 2024, with a funeral service to begin 2:00 PM with Nelson Henderson officiating. All services will be held in the McNabb Funeral Home Chapel. A burial will follow at Hope Cemetery.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers are Tyreese Oaks, Miles C. Snider, Reggie Smith, Charlie Smith, Arvel Wimbish, and Marvin Oaks Jr.
