Kenneth Clarke, Jr

Kenneth Goodwin Clarke, Jr., 89, of Pocahontas passed away May 26, 2023 at St. Bernard’s Five Rivers Medical Center.

Ken was born on June 3, 1933 in Keene, New Hampshire to the late Kenneth Goodwin Clarke Sr and Thelma Tucker Clarke. He served as a military police officer in the Air Force during the Korea and Vietnam Wars. After completing his military service Ken served as a police officer with the Bourne, Massachusetts Police Department, was Chief Deputy for Barnstable County, Massachusetts, served as Sheriff on Nantucket Island, and later served as deputy sheriff for the Sharp County Sheriff’s Department.

Ken was a proud member of the DeWitt Clinton Lodge of Ancient Free and Accepted Masons in Sandwich, Massachusetts. He joined the lodge on April 4, 1967, and worked his way to 32nd degree Master Mason. He was very active with the lodge until moving to Pocahontas but continued to retain membership in the lodge.

Ken had a great love of baseball. He played for the Air Force league while serving in the military, and coached in the Cape Cod college league.

On June 3, 1972, on his 39th birthday, Ken was married to Linda Callicott. They enjoyed nearly 51 years of marriage together.

Ken took great pride in being a Yankee who landed in the South, was an accomplished gardener, an amazing cook, an animal lover, a good friend and neighbor, but most of all he loved his wife and family with all his heart and soul. He was a member of Pocahontas First United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Kenneth Goodwin Sr and Thelma Tucker Clarke; and a grandson, Sam Lingo.

Ken is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Linda Callicott Clarke; son, Alan (Mindy) Gouge of Greenville, Indiana; daughters, Kathy (Scott) Aden of Charlotte, North Carolina and Donna Clarke (Dan) Mathers of Gilbert, Arizona; grandsons, Zach Mathers and Cory Gouge; brotherin- law and sister-in-law, Monte and Janice Callicott of Pocahontas; and many other relatives and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday, June 7, 2023 from 12–2 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 2 PM with Rev. Pat Bodenhamer officiating. Burial with military honors will follow in Masonic Cemetery.

Honored to serve as pallbearers are Raul Blasini, Dan Mathers, Zach Mathers, Alan Gouge, Cory Gouge, and Scott Aden.
