Gary Overstreet

Gary Wayne Overstreet of Pocahontas, passed from this life November 16, 2022 at the age of 76. Gary was the youngest of five children. Born in Biggers November 23, 1945; he lived his entire life in Arkansas.

Gary wasn’t a stranger to hard work. He was a proud Arkansas State University graduate. He served with the United States National Guard and retired after a combined 57 years working for the US Government. Beginning in 1967, he worked for the US Department of Agriculture agency of Soil Conservation Service. His last 26 years were spent as CED in the Randolph County FSA Office. He was very proud of the good work he did helping the farmers in the community.

Gary was also a member of Skaggs Church of Christ.

Gary didn’t have many hobbies outside of his family. In addition to watching old westerns and picking on Janet, he enjoyed many years of organizing and attending Jeff’s sporting events during his elementary and high school years, then later while in college. Later, he focused on his grandsons’ football and baseball events and talking to anyone that would listen at various coffee shops around town about them. During years and years of drinking coffee at the Hillcrest Restaurant, the Sale Barn Café, Junction 166 and even McDonald’s, his time spent visiting and aggravating his friends was something that he enjoyed immensely.

Gary loved to tell stories and definitely had a way with words. From describing the events that led to his electrocution on the dog’s fence to the detailed rendition of the infamous scooter accident that laid him up for quite some time; Gary always had a story that was worth hearing more than once.

He was proceeded in death by his parents Jess and Gladys Overstreet and his four older siblings – Russell, Reed, Marilyn and JoAnn.

Gary is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Janet; his only son, Jeff, his daughter-in-law (who was more like a daughter to him) Jenni, both of Maumelle, and his two favorite subjects of conversation, his grandsons Garrett of Jonesboro and Jake of Maumelle; these boys made him proud every single day.

In addition to the immediate family, many nieces, nephews and greats will remember their Uncle Gary.
