Don “Strawberry” Burgess, 78, of Pocahontas passed away Monday, January 17, 2022 at his home. He was born October 30, 1943 in Pocahontas to the late Zaniel and Ulelear Patterson Burgess. He worked as a farmer, as a mechanic for the City of Pocahontas, and was a member of N o r t h s i d e F r e e w i l l B a p t i s t Church.

Don was preceded in death by his parents, Zaniel and Ulelear Burgess; son, Scotty Burgess; brothers Gib and Michael Burgess; and sisters, Carolyn Morgan and Kay Atkins.

He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Sharon Kay Bates Burgess; sons, Benny (Nita) Burgess of Maynard and Timothy (Teka) Burgess of Pocahontas; daughters, Dotty (Rod) Hindson of Pocahontas and Angela (Scott) Hancock of Pocahontas; fifteen grandchildren; thirteen greatgrandchildren; sisters, Shirley Marlett of Maynard, Linda Leathers of Pocahontas, and Kathy Reed of Pocahontas; daughter-inlaw, LeAnne Burgess of Po c a h o n t a s ; many nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and many friends. Visitation will be Friday, January 21, 2022 from 1-2 PM in the chapel of McNabb Funeral Home with a funeral service beginning at 2 PM with Jearl Dean officiating. Cremation will take place following all services.
