BRTC Library houses national exhibit

A new national exhibit is the centerpiece for a collaborative project between Black River Technical College (BRTC) and the Eddie Mae Herron Center. The exhibit “Am I An American Or Am I Not?” focuses on the history of the Japanese American incarceration during World War II, and is named after a quote from Fred Korematsu, who famously challenged the mass imprisonments.

PSD sets date for Community Informational Meeting

The Pocahontas School District invites all community members to join in on a public informational meeting about the 2025 millage campaign. The purpose of this meeting is to provide clear information about the proposed millage and to give the community the opportunity to ask questions and share their voice. Families, guardians and community members are encouraged to attend. The meeting will be held Tuesday, September 9 at 6 p.m. at the Pocahontas Community Center.

45th Annual Maynard Pioneer Days date set

The 45th Annual Maynard Pioneer Days is set for September 18 through September 20. Activities planned for the weekend include: Pioneer Prince and Pioneer Princess winners announced, baked goods contest and auction, parade, political speakers, blacksmiths demonstrations, craft and food vendors, bounce house, petting zoo, turkey shoot and live music by Finley Watkins and Dixon Street. The parade grand prize winner will receive $300. For more information contact 870647-2701.

I stopped at a convenience store for gas. As I was paying, the gentleman in front of me was carrying his 2 hot coffees out the door. The door didn’t open and this man spilled 2 hot coffees all over his hands and arms. I was freaking out trying to find napkins and he said “It’s cooled off now, no worries” and walked out the door. I looked at the cashier in disbelief and she said “He’s fine, he’s a farmer.” Indeed.
