Maynard Odyssey of the Mind teams recently competed at State. The Middle School team (grades 6-8) won the State Championship in their division/problem and the Elementary Team (grades 3-5) won State Runners-up in their division/problem. Both teams advance to the World finals at Michigan State University.
Keith Sutton Five Rivers Shooting Range is offering a Practical Competition Shooting League Course (PCSL). This course will be offered in two courses a basic fundamentals and a skills & drills course. Adults for each course are $50 or $75 for both. Youth 12+ is $20 per course or $30 for both. Saturday, June 14 will be youth course. Saturday, June 7 will be the adult courses. All Shooting Range Members will get half off these courses.
The legislature completed the 2025 regular session after approving a balanced budget, increasing public school funding, making higher education more accessible and improving maternal health care.
Misti Stowers, owner of Buttercream Bakery & Frozen Custard, brought home top honors at the Arkansas Pie Festival on April 26. Competing among some of the state’s best bakers, Stowers impressed both judges and festival goers with her signature Pecan Cream Pie.
Pocahontas Community Center will be offering American Red Cross Babysitting Certification courses this summer. The course will teach how to properly care for children of all ages. Emergency education as well as first aid, CPR and AED training. This course will be $75 and will be an eight hour course. To register visit the event signups tab at cityofpocahontas. com. Payment will be paid on day of class, but pre-registration must be filled out before.
Pocahontas Mayor Keith Futrell offered a progress report this week on the ongoing improvements at Baltz Lake, discussing the performance of the lake’s infrastructure during recent flooding and outlining upcoming maintenance efforts.
Ravenden recently received a grant through the Arkansas Economic Development Commission’s Rural Services Block Grant program. The grant was for $97,000 and will go towards fire equipment. East Arkansas Planning & Development District was instrumental in writing the grant.
