Speaking French

Just a few weeks ago, I walked to the end of my driveway and looked inside my mailbox—always excited to see what’s in there and whether I need to let it stay in there and rot or if I should take it out and throw it on my bar in my kitchen. On this particular day, I found an envelope from Debbie Wise, the Randolph County Circuit Clerk. Now, anyone who knows who Debbie is or knows what a county circuit clerk does, knows the instant shock of terror and fear that ran down my body. I hurriedly opened it up to find something downright amazing—something I have waited my entire life for: a summons to report to the Randolph County Circuit Court on Monday, Feb. 3, to do my duty as an American citizen and serve a term of jury duty.
