Here & There
It is unusual for temperatures here to drop in December to 6 degrees above zero, as they did on Monday. Records furnished by the Weather Service, which date back to 1909 for this county, show that such weather is not unheard of. The coldest December on record was 9 degrees below zero in 1916. Other years since 1909 have seen the mercury drop as low as it did this week (for December). The coldest temperature ever recorded here was 20 degrees below zero in January 1930.
Letter to the Editor
Randolph County, where I spent most of my childhood days, taught me about nature and conservation. The lessons I learned exploring the county’s five beautiful rivers served me well when I became the congressman for the 2nd District of Arkansas in 1979.

Arkansas House
The Arkansas House Committee for Aging, Children and Youth, and Legislative and Military Affairs met this week and reviewed the annual report from the Department of Human Servicesâ Division of children and Family Services. The report provided significant insights into the stateâs foster care system during State Fiscal Year (SFY) 2024.
From Scratch
with Jenny Tyson Thereâs something magical about Christmas trees-especially when youâre seeing them through the eyes of a grandchild. This past Saturday, we took our grandson to Cornerstone Christmas Tree Farm in Pocahontas for what turned into a heartwarming, hilarious adventure in the art of holiday tree-picking.
