Long-term care and senior living in our country are taking on a dramatic shift as more Americans enter advanced age. This will place a larger strain on nursing homes and the existing network that serves this population, which is why it is critical to help rather than hamper the industry’s preparations for this incoming surge.
Everyone get ready because Maynard Pioneer Days is almost here! Beginning Thursday, Sept. 12, Pioneer Day events start off with School Night at Maynard Pioneer Park at 5 p.m.
The annual Inness Family Reunion will be held at the Ravenden Springs Church of Christ fellowship hall on Saturday, Aug. 31, with the building opening at 11 a.m. and potluck lunch served at 12 noon. Please come out and join family and friends.
The Rainwater Family Reunion will be held Saturday, Aug. 31 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Community Center by the City Water Park in Pocahontas. All family and friends are invited to attend. There will be a potluck lunch served.
The Pocahontas High School Senior Class of 1974 will hold their 50 year class reunion Saturday, Sept. 14 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas. Cost for the event and catered meal is $35 per person. The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. The Friday night before, Sept. 13, the class will be recognized at the Pocahontas Redskin vs. Brookland Bearcats football game at 7 p.m. at Schoonover Stadium. Please make plans to attend and enjoy a time of visiting and reminiscing.
St. Bernards Five Rivers Medical Center in Pocahontas recently received five American Heart Association “Get with the Guidelines” and “Mission: Lifeline” achievement awards for demonstrating commitment to following up-to-date, research- based guidelines for the treament of heart disease and stroke. Following these guidelines ultimately leads to more lives save, shorter recovery times and fewer readmissions to the hospital.
On Aug. 10, Arkansas State University, Jonesboro, celebrated its commencement ceremony where Pocahontas native Catherine Couch was honored as Valedictorian of the Class of 2024. A large crowd of parents, family and friends gathered during the ceremony to hear Couch’s Commencement speech and cheer for the graduates as they received their diplomas.
Willard “Will” A. Whitlock, 87, of Pocahontas went to his heavenly home on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Randolph County Nursing Home.
Rebecca Lois Severs Sutton, 88, went to be with the Lord on August 8, 2024. Lois was born April 8, 1936, in Oxley, Missouri to the late Leslie and Opal Russell Severs.
