Notes from August 19, 2024 What a time in which to be alive; just when you think you have heard it all, something else breaks and causes us to shake our heads in disbelief. Ain’t it the truth then, I have to remind myself there is nothing new under the sun.

Celebrating Two Years of the PACT Act

Our nation made a promise to the men and women who served in uniform that we would take care of them. This month marks the twoyear anniversary of a major step forward in that mission with the signing of the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring Our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act, landmark legislation that delivers all toxic-exposed veterans their earned Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) health care and benefits.

Republican Party members and others: Please join our public monthly meetings

The local meeting of the Republican Party is held every second Monday of the month at Rancho Bravo Mexican Restaurant at 7 p.m. If you want to eat, join folks earlier around 6- 6:15 p.m. We meet in the back room of the restaurant, which is located at 725 U.S. Hwy 67 in Pocahontas. The meeting is open to the general public.

PHS Class of 1974

The Pocahontas High School Senior Class of 1974 will hold their 50 year class reunion Saturday, Sept. 14 at Rolling Hills Country Club in Pocahontas. Cost for the event and catered meal is $35 per person. The meal will be served at 5:30 p.m. The Friday night before, Sept. 13, the class will be recognized at the Pocahontas Redskin vs. Brookland Bearcats football game at 7 p.m. at Schoonover Stadium. Please make plans to attend and enjoy a time of visiting and reminiscing.
