Speaking French

Sitting with my daughter, my aunt and my mom last Saturday afternoon, trying to get a word in edgewise, I blurted out, “Who’s the greatest fictional character of all time?” Receiving looks and stares of bewilderment, my mom quickly shouted out, “Billy Graham!” Expecting such a response, I explained to her that the Reverend Graham could in no way be anyone’s favorite fictional character. Understanding my words, she then blurted out, “Michael Jordan!” She was so proud of herself, but again, what kind of son would I be if I allowed her to think she was correct? Just Jana

I walked onto the deck ahead of my client. She pointed out the landscaping in the back yard. I moved closer to get a good look and glanced down at the flower pot on the rail. The Maynard Gang

Deeming the amusing and/or profound sayings of Randolph Countians worthy of another column, I have wrought one. Winnowing from hundreds of utterances is a difficult enterprise. Both the sensibilities of conservatives and the erudition of the cognoscenti must be considered.

Sharing Stories of Service

The service and sacrifice of Arkansans called to wear our nation’s uniform are woven into the fabric of our communities. Long after men and women leave active duty, their commitment to others continues. I’m proud to share the stories of these individuals and their desire to serve for the Library of Congress Veterans History Project (VHP).

The price of liberty . . .

To be hopeful in the midst of corrupt times is to be brave. There are agendas being set in motion that threaten the American way of life. We know that throughout the history of the world, people can be mean, greedy, controlling and even vindictive, but we must never forget that there are people who can counterbalance and dare I say, defeat, the evil among us through great amounts of kindness, mettle, compassion and heroic efforts.
