LIHEAP, a federal block grant program, is designed to lower the energy burden from low-income households, who pay a high proportion of household income for home energy costs, by paying benefits for home energy bills. The program assists households with both heating costs during the winter and cooling costs during the summer.

Over the years, cats have had a way of “miraculously” appearing at my house. The Transportation Security Administration screened nearly three million air travelers on Sunday, June 23, breaking the single day record. Seven of the top 10 busiest travel days ever at our nation’s airports have been since late May. The agency predicts it will continue to hit new highs as we’re in the middle of the busy summer travel season.
Ballgame nights with the sounds of cleats clacking, bats cracking and the smells of ballpark concession stands are here. For many of us moms, those evenings were a whirlwind of cheers and just trying to keep it all together. John 3:17, a faith-based residential recovery center for women located just outside Newport, is hosting the “River of Hope” benefit on Friday, Aug. 2, at Black River Technical College’s Randolph County Development Center. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., followed by a catfish dinner at 5:45 p.m. Entertainment will be provided by the John 3:17 residents.
