From the Humane Society….

Since the pandemic, cases of animal cruelty – abandonment, neglect and abuse – have skyrocketed; not just in the United States, but all over the world about 55%. Societal issues that may be the cause are cost of living increases, uncared for mental health issues, increases in substance abuse, eviction moratorium expiration and fewer spay/ neuter surgeries during the pandemic.

JA hosts Poker Float

The Junior Auxiliary of Randolph County is hosting a Poker Float on June 22, with a registration deadline of June 15. Participants will enjoy a day on the water, with shuttles departing from James Ranch at 9:30 a.m. The $75 per person or $125 per couple fee includes a vessel, transportation, one poker hand and a BBQ box dinner. Great Eleven Point River Float

Groups and individuals are invited to join The Great Eleven Point River Float on Saturday, June 29. The event, sponsored by Perry Properties, LLC, will begin at the former site of Woody’s Campground, located four miles north of Dalton on Highway 93, and conclude at the river access point in Dalton. Participants can start their float between 9 a.m. and noon and are encouraged to travel at their own pace. A prize will be awarded to the group with the most participants, not the fastest to complete the course. There is no charge to participate.

Summerfeeding program at PSD

Nearly 30 million children participate in USDA’s school breakfast and lunch programs on an average school day. When school is out for the summer, kids lose access to these healthy meals, but they still need nutritious food to grow healthy and strong.
