In a historic moment for Maynard Elementary, the school’s archery team, comprising of 14 students, stepped onto the grand stage of the 2024 National Archery Competition at the Kentucky Exposition Center in Louisville, Ky. on May 9.

I have been on the phone with Arvest Bank, Experian, Trans Union, Equifax and a life alert medical company when I dialed the wrong number, ALL DAY! Someone opened an account in my name at Arvest then signed up for overdraft privileges. That’s apparently how they get their money. I got it shut down and who knows what else I accidentally shut off. It’s been a very confusing morning.

A day late and a dollar short seems to be more than just a motto—but my way of life. But better late than never, as they always say… As we celebrated Mother’s Day last weekend, we hopefully honored the ladies who helped and tried to shape us, nurtured us, taught us and showed us what life and love are about. True, fathers do all of those things, too, but in different ways. It’s not about whose role is bigger or better, and it’s not even about conforming to specific gender roles. It is simply acknowledging that both parents influence our lives through the choices they make with us, and each one’s influence is distinct from the other.

Imboden Area Charter School has busy spring
Spring has been a fun and very busy season for the students at Imboden Area Charter School, as they have recently learned about eclipses and time capsules in addition to their regular studies. Beginning the 2023-24 school year, the school moved locations from the previous Imboden area to nearby Black Rock, now situated inside the historic former Black Rock High School campus.

JPs vote to sell old RC Nursing Home building
An offer of $250,000 was accepted by the Randolph County Quorum Court at the monthly meeting on May 9. The old Randolph County Nursing Home building has had ongoing funding and upkeep issues.


John Truitt
John Walter Truitt, 46, of Pocahontas, passed away Thursday, May 2, 2024, at UAMS in Little Rock. John was born May 21, 1977, in Pocahontas to John and Bobbye Recker Truitt.

Ansel Shrader
Ansel Brent Shrader, 50, of Pocahontas, Arkansas, formerly of Scottsboro, Alabama passed away on May 2, 2024, surrounded by his loved ones. Brent was born to Charles and Ruth Shrader in Scottsboro, Alabama on June 2, 1973.

Martha Brown
Martha Mae Brown, 77, of Pocahontas, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024. Martha was born December 14, 1946, in Pocahontas, to Lester and Lilly Tyler Henderson.
