Norma Jean Hocking of Ardmore, AL passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by family and friends on April 15, 2024. Norma was born in Maynard, AR on September 2, 1937 to Normal Otto Sullivan and Mary Elizabeth Cain Sullivan.

Rodney Thomas Mahan of Dalton passed away at home on April 11, 2024, at the age of 67. Rodney was born June 28, 1956, in Topeka, KS to Edwin and Thelma Mahan.
Thomas John Burtman 70, of Jonesboro departed this life on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at his home in Jonesboro. He was born in Pocahontas, Arkansas on August 7, 1953, to the late Charles Roscoe Burtman and Orpha Whitrock Burtman.

An estimated 5,000 visitors flooded into Pocahontas on Monday, April 8, to witness the spectacle of the North American Total Eclipse. Despite initial concerns about the event, the community rallied together to provide a warm welcome and unforgettable experience for attendees from around the globe.

Several local economic development partners will co-host a regional job fair at Black River Technical College in Pocahontas on Wednesday, April 17 from 9am to 2pm. The NEA Intermodal, Black River Technical College, Randolph County Chamber of Commerce and Lawrence County Chamber of Commerce will cohost the event, which will give job seekers access to hundreds of available jobs in Northeast Arkansas.

Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) fire science program recently assisted the American Military University Cold Case Team (AMUCCT) in recreating a murder scene that had been destroyed by fire. Linda Malcom was a 47-year-old Navy Veteran who worked as a paralegal in Port Orchard, Washington.
Black River Technical College’s (BRTC) Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter Beta Delta Phi recently traveled to the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith to attend the regional PTK conference. Two PTK members and officers, Co-Vice President of Community Service Elizabeth Spinks and Co-Vice President of College Project Kaleigh Lester, attended guest lectures, team bonding sessions, and other fun networking events.
Kaleb Exum of Paragould has been awarded the Rick Bozwell Memorial Scholarship, made possible by funding from the Knights of Columbus 2443 in Pocahontas. Exum is a 2023 graduate of Greene County Tech High School and is the son of Michael and April Exum.
