VFW’s Patriotic Art Contest

VFW Auxiliary #4556 will hold it’s annual 3-Dimensional Patriotic Art Contest for students in grades 9-12. Students must be enrolled in a public, private, parochial or home school program in the United States, its territories and possessions, or dependents of U.S.military or civilian personnel in overseas schools.

PSD will close for solar eclipse

Pocahontas Public Schools will not be in session on Monday, April 8, 2024, due to the total solar eclipse. The school will be closed as we are in the direct path of the totality, and this event is anticipated to draw nearly 20,000 visitors to our surrounding area. In light of the expected influx of visitors, it has been decided to close the school to minimize logistical challenges that may arise with school dismissal and bus routes.

VFW’s singing Contest

VFW Auxiliary #4556 is sponsoring its annual “Get Excited for the Red, White and Blue!” National Anthem singing contest. The contest is open to students in grades K-12 who are enrolled in a public, private, parochial school, or home study program in the United States, its territories and possessions, or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools. Foreign exchange students and students aged 20 or older are ineligible.

Guyenne Grady, passed away on December 27, 2023. Guylene was born October 22, 1932 in Pocahontas, Arkansas to Guy and Ruby Blansett. She was preceded in death by her father Guy Blansett, mother Ruby Bowlin, grandson Robert Luke Domme, brother Larry Blansett and step father Ray Bowlin. She is survived by her son Ray Scott (Laura) Grady of Corrales, New Mexico, Daughters Judy (Jim) Rogers of Albuquerque, New Mexico, and Jennifer Jimenez of Rio Rancho, New Mexico. Guylene was a proud grandmother of 11 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. She was an active and devoted member of Riverside Church of Christ.

Pam Seagraves

Pamela Jane Seagraves, age 63, of Pocahontas, passed from this life on Wednesday, December 27, 2023 at UAMS Medical Center in Little Rock. She was born in Pocahontas on April 1, 1960, the daughter of the late William (Bill) and Alvera Tyler Seagraves. Pam was a 1979 graduate of Pocahontas High School. Her hobbies included photography, gardening and reading, but she most enjoyed spending time with her family, friends and pets.
