State Auditor sends check to BRTC

Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently received a check for nearly $1,500 from Auditor of State Dennis Milligan for unclaimed property the college had in the Great Arkansas Treasure Hunt. Unclaimed property can be any number of financial items, such as insurance premium overpayments, unreimbursed utility deposits, uncashed checks, contents of safety deposit boxes, etc.

Patriotic Art Contest information

VFW Auxiliary #4556 is pleased to sponsor its annual Post Level Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contest, for students in grades 9-12. Students must be enrolled in a public, private, parochial, or home school program in the U.S., its territories and possessions, or dependents of U.S. military or civilian personnel in overseas schools. U.S. citizenship is not required, however, students must be lawful U.S. permanent residents or have applied for permanent residency and intends to become a U.S. citizen. Foreign exchange students, students age 20 or older, GED and adult education students or National winners of previous Young American Creative Patriotic Art Contests are not eligible.

Studio for the Arts, Inc. takes center stage

George Bernard Shaw stated, “Without art, the crudeness of reality would make the world unbearable.” This makes the current mission of the Studio for the Arts, Inc. more pertinent than ever. Arkansas has only fifteen community based performing arts and centers offered for its 3 million plus residents. In 1991, there was less than that when The Studio for the Arts, Inc., a non-profit based in Pocahontas, AR first began touring the state as part of The Arkansas Arts Council’s Arts On Tour Roster. Their first tour was a music revue, “An Evening with Andrew Lloyd Webber”. Since that time other performances were added as well until the demands and focus of a full time dinner theater encouraged the organization to “stay home”.

BRTC awards scholarship

Black River Technical College (BRTC) has awarded the Leondus and Gladys Brown Baker Memorial Scholarship to Hank DuBois of Pocahontas. DuBois is a 2023 graduate of Pocahontas High School and the son of Shawnee DuBois of Pocahontas.
