1st Choice Healthcare opens new, state of the art facility

and/or APRNs, each equipped with three exam rooms and an office. Furthermore, three rooms are dedicated to Licensed Clinical Social Workers (LCSWs) who attend to behavioral health patients. Pocahontas’ 1st Choice Healthcare is currently accepting new patients, and the team believes that this state-of-theart building will further their mission of providing compassionate healthcare to everyone in Randolph and surrounding counties.

Christmas is behind us, so it’s time now to think about the coming year. I hope all of you have a wonderfully happy and healthy year ahead. Let’s plan our New Year’s Day. In the South, it is customary to always have hog jowl and blackeyed peas. I was always told that this traditional fare was necessary to be blessed with prosperity throughout the coming year. I’m not sure it really works, but it’s a fun tradition, and besides, it means what I call a wonderful Southern dinner.

Baine graduates from leadership program

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Vice President of Academic Affairs Dr. Brad Baine recently graduated from the 2023 class of the Arkansas Community College’s (ACC) Leadership Institute “Attending and participating in the Arkansas Community Colleges Leadership Institute was a very beneficial and rewarding experience. It allowed me the opportunity to connect with outstanding leaders from all across Arkansas,” said Baine. “The leadership program was filled with strategic sessions that allowed me to grow as a professional and become a better leader. I am grateful for the Arkansas Association of Community Colleges executive leadership team and the high-quality leadership program that they are offering professionals of higher education.“ According to arkansascc. org, the ACC Leadership Institute, established in 2008, has provided leadership, administration, and advocacy training to approximately 300 emerging community college leaders in Arkansas. Many of their graduates have gone on to become college presidents and chancellors, vice presidents and chancellors, and other key community college administrators. This event is open to ACC members who are nominated by their institution’s president or chancellor. Approximately 24 people attend this annual, multi-session event.

Liebhaber Selected as a Fellow of the 2024 Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy

Black River Technical College (BRTC) Vice President of Institutional Advancement Dr. Karen Powers Liebhaber was recently selected as a fellow of the 2024 Delta Leadership Institute Executive Academy. Delta Regional Authority (DRA) has selected 29 community leaders from Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Louisiana, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, and Tennessee as fellows of the 2024 Delta Leadership Institute (DLI) Executive Academy, an extensive nine-month leadership development program that brings together public, private, and nonprofit sector leaders from the Mississippi River Delta and Alabama Black Belt regions. The 2024 DLI Executive Academy fellows were selected through a competitive application process led by DRA’s eight state governors and DRA’s federal co-chairman.

BRTC awards Archer Realty Scholarship

Black River Technical College (BRTC) recently awarded the Archer Realty Scholarship made possible by funding from Archer Realty to Bridget McNatt of Paragould. McNatt is a 2002 graduate of River Valley High School. She is seeking a degree in respiratory care. She is married to Timothy McNatt, and the pair share one daughter, Anna Saffell.
