Pocahontas honors veterans with flags

Veteran’s Day is fast approaching, and as people drive through the city, they will notice American flags flying. These flags were donated by individuals and businesses who wanted to show their patriotism for our country and honor our veterans, both past and present. The vision for this project was presented to city leaders by the VFW Post 4556 and the Auxiliary, and they received support from the community.

Linda Lee Parks, 71, of Pocahontas passed away Monday, October 23, 2023, at Arkansas Continued Care Hospital in Jonesboro. She was born July 5, 1952, in Oelwein, Iowa to the late Paul and Betty Westcott Kruger.

Shop-With-A-Cop is a program dedicated to helping underprivileged children enjoy a holiday shopping experience while fostering positive relationships between law enforcement and the community. Only two children per family, ages seven years old to high school seniors, will be accepted.

Students win, books triumph: P.A.I.D magic

In response to the declining interest in reading among today’s youth, Pocahontas Junior High School has introduced an initiative called the Pocahontas Activities and Incentives Department (P.A.I.D) in Aug. 2021. Crafted to foster the love of reading, this program has rapidly gained momentum, encouraging students to plunge themselves into books, explore appealing narratives and share their literary adventures.

Justices reviewing expansion options assessment for the Randolph County Courthouse

County Judge Ben Wicker and the Randolph County Quorum Court are currently exploring ways to expand the county courthouse as the current courthouse has become inadequate to meet the growing needs of the community. The three options under consideration were prepared by WER Architects and Petit & Petit Consulting Engineers of Little Rock. The following information is a brief overview of the 98-page analysis from the site visit submitted to the county by WER Architects and Petit & Petit Consulting Engineers on Oct. 5, 2023.
