Legendary songwriter, Datto native passes away at 84
Bill Rice, a legendary songwriter, was born and raised in Datto, near Reyno, just outside of Randolph County. He passed away at the age of 84 in Florida on Oct.

Don’t forget, if you plan on buying a frozen turkey, be sure to buy it early to allow for several days of thawing in the refrigerator before cooking. If you’re expecting a large crowd, consider adding a turkey breast to the platter for extra white meat, which seems to be a favorite for many.

•November is Adopt-a-Senior Pet Month. If your family is considering adopting a new furry family member, please consider a “senior” dog or cat. They are laid-back and loving, and will return that love ten-fold for taking them in.

This week, the House Aging, Children and Youth, Legislative and Military Affairs Committee convened with the Senate Children and Youth Committee. Members were presented with the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Advisory Council Annual Report. These findings shed light on the alarming statistics surrounding Alzheimer’s disease in the state, revealing both present challenges and future hurdles facing our state.
