Janes Cemetery meeting July 29

The annual Janes Cemetery meeting will be held on Saturday, July 29 at noon at the Ravenden Springs Church of Christ fellowship building. A potluck lunch will be served. Donations for the maintenance of the cemetery can be given at that time, or checks may be made out to Janes Cemetery Mowing Fund and mailed to Bill Bailey, 1912 N Park St, Pocahontas, AR 72455.

DILL PICKLES Ingredients: 1 qt. cucumbers, medium size 2 sprays and stems of fresh dill 3-4 cloves garlic 1/2 tsp alum 2 C water 2 T salt 2 T vinegar Directions: Wash and pack cucumbers in sterilized quart jar.

RC youth places in state cooking contest

On June 27, the Arkansas Rice is Nice Cooking Contest took place at the Arkansas State Fairgrounds, showcasing the culinary skills of budding young chefs. The competition, aimed at students aged 9-18 or in the 4th through 12th grades, serves as a platform to introduce the significance of rice as both a crop and a versatile dietary staple. With Arkansas contributing nearly 50% of the nation’s rice production each year, the contest plays a crucial role in promoting the state’s agricultural prowess.

The Downtown Playhouse group announces the ending of its theatrical productions

“Barefoot in the Park” will be the final show The Downtown Playhouse, which has delivered quality, stage plays to audiences in Pocahontas since opening in July 2015, will present its final production, “Barefoot in the Park,” beginning July 15. The non-profit organization headed by Kelly Grooms and the Second Act Productions is ending.
