During the regularly scheduled Randolph County Quorum Court Meeting on Thursday night, July 13, Randolph County Judge Ben Wicker was given approval from the justices to make a bid of $750,000 to purchase the oldAlma Spikes Elementary School property on Highland Drive near the Bowlin Addition in Pocahontas.
The City of Pocahontas is experiencing remarkable growth, with a strong emphasis on expanding recreational opportunities for families in the region. As part of this ongoing effort, the city recently unveiled the eagerly anticipated Five Rivers Shooting Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art facility spanning thirty-five acres.
The MFA Oil Foundation has awarded a grant to the Bridge of Hope Ministries, Inc. to assist with purchasing flooring for a foster home. The MFA Oil Foundation provides support to nonprofit organizations that are working to improve communities where MFA Oil has a significant concentration of members and employees. Since it was established in 1998, the MFA Oil Foun dation has awarded more than three million dollars in grants. MFA Oil Senior Director of Employee Engagement and Culture Tom May described the MFA Oil Foundation as “a program that allows our company to give support back to the rural communities that are the foundation of our business. The grants the Foundation awards help support many youth programs and organizations active in addressing and solving community problems and improving the quality of life.”

Neil Simon’s classic “Barefoot in the Park” will be staged this summer at Downtown Playhouse in Pocahontas. The comedy opened July 15 and runs through mid-August.

Geneva A. Winebaugh, age 96 of Big Rock, IL, passed away on Monday, July 10, 2023, at the Accent Care Hospice in Naperville, IL. She was born on October 3, 1926, in Dalton, AR, the daughter of Thomas and Annie (Mitchell) Reynolds.
William George Coates Sr., 90, of Pocahontas passed away July 10, 2023, at Randolph Home Nursing Home in Pocahontas. William was born August 20, 1932, In Beth Israel Newark, NJ.
Jerry W. Ray, 81, of Pocahontas passed from this life on Wednesday, July 12, 2023, at Regional One Medical Center in Memphis, Tennessee. He was born January 28, 1942 in Delaplaine to the late Goah C. and Ruby (Williams) Ray. He was of the Pentecostal belief. Jerry loved antiques of all kinds.

Kenneth Pickett, 67, of Conway, Arkansas, went to be with the Lord, July 12, 2023. He was born in Imboden, Arkansas, on July 29, 1955 to Clyde Doyle and Katheryn Georgene Sanford Pickett.
