A significant development is stirring up discussion among Pocahontas residents as the Randolph County Justices voted to allow Randolph County Judge Ben Wicker to offer a substantial bid of $750,000 to acquire property on Highland Drive, currently housing the vacant Alma Spikes Elementary school buildings, from the Pocahontas Public School District.
As summer winds down and fall approaches, the excitement in Pocahontas is evident as the Redskins football team gears up for the 2023 season. The Junior Football Redskins are set to kick off the season on Aug. 17, heading to Valley View to face off against the Junior Blazers. The following night, on Aug. 18, the Senior Football Redskins will host Valley View at 7:00 p.m. at Schoonover Field.
2023 Youth Soccer signups have begun and will continue through Sunday, August 13. Forms can be turned in at Pocahontas City Hall Monday through Friday from 8:30-11:30 a.m. and 1:30-4:00 p.m. or can be mailed to City of Pocahontas, Attention Sports Complex, P.O. The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas was awarded a $10,000 grant by Baptist Memorial Health Care to provide fresh produce in Craighead County. The Food Bank of Northeast Arkansas is committed to making nutritious food available to those in need.
Preacher Pat Bodenhamer of First United Methodist Church has taken the initiative to combat hunger among students by reintroducing her Snack Wagon, a mobile snack station stocked with goodies and healthy treats. Assisting her in this cause, Mrs. Carol Massey joined hands to ensure the wagon was filled with an assortment of yummy snacks.
Powhatan Historic State Park will host a Sewing and Quilting workshop in August. The workshops have a registration fee and reservations are required.
The 2023 Spring River’s Got Talent show will be held at 6:30 pm on August 26 at the Hardy Civic Center and is now accepting auditions from solo or duo singers to compete for $1,750 in prize money - $1000 first place, $500 second place and $250 third place. The event is organized by the Spring River Area Chamber of Commerce (SRACC).
