I recently had dinner with a family friend who grew up here but had lived in central Arkansas for many years since. As we drove around town so he could view sites both familiar and new, we headed down Pyburn Street westerly toward Masonic Cemetery. He remarked how people’s sense of pride here in their property seemed to have declined since his youth spent here.

If anyone had said a few years ago, that important intelligence would be leaked in a chat server, used for an online game, we would have thought they were joking. But here we are, with headlines saying just that. With the explosion of online gaming, social media networks and the pandemic forcing people to stay at home, doing virtually everything online, our world has changed drastically and faster than anyone could have projected. From this leaked information, to the discussion of banning the popular mobile app TikTok, to the concern of children being groomed on many platforms, there are so many pitfalls to navigate. Unfortunately, it is difficult to simply remove oneself from the technology of the day. Many schools even encourage outside assignments that involve some of these. The concern is how do we keep the good aspects of these technologies without opening ourselves up to the bad.
