The City of Pocahontas Sanitation Department has announced a special trash pick-up schedule in observance of Good Friday. According to the announcement, Friday’s trash will be collected on Monday, April 10, along with Monday’s regular route.

The University of Arkansas has named Lance Schmidt as the 2021-22 winner of the Outstanding M.S. Alumnus Award.
The Arkansas Division of Aeronautics (ADA) project team held a meeting in Pocahontas March 20 where the ADA presented a comprehensive plan outlining an informed study currently being performed to decide whether or not Northeast Arkansas has an adequate need for a NEA Regional Airport, but the original survey was deemed to be lacking.
The Star Herald has announced that it will be publishing an Athlete of the Year Special on April 28. The special edition will highlight the top four athletes from each of the area’s local school districts: Pocahontas, Maynard and Sloan-Hendrix.
It has been six years since Don Steele passed away, but his memory and legacy lives on through the Don Steele Memorial Scholarship. Steele was a patron and a close friend to many in the community, known for his huge and giving heart.
Freda Mae Koons, 89, of Jonesboro passed away April 3, 2023, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center.
Kathryn Christine Dust, 98, of Pocahontas, Arkansas passed away on Tuesday, March 21, 2023, at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro, Arkansas surrounded by family. Kathryn was born on November 15, 1924, in Engelberg, Arkansas to John Osterkamp and Lena Ostercamp.
Arthur Campbell, 91, of Pocahontas, AR passed away at St. Bernard’s Medical Center in Jonesboro on March 18, 2023. Arthur was born on December 7, 1931 in Tiptonville, Tennessee to Benton and Bertha Campbell.
Barbara Ellen Pitcher, 83, passed away March 31, 2023, at the Flo and Phil Jones Hospice house. She was born November 8, 1939, to the late John and Lena (Allen) Phillips.
