While their stories are certainly worth recounting, there is one man from Randolph County who has been forgotten in the annals of our local history.

It’s a family tradition: law enforcement and leading souls to Christ

Serving his community is a given for Hampton Owens, a Randolph County Deputy Sheriff, known by most everyone as Peanut, a nickname given him at birth by his family. He is a third generation law enforcement officer. His grandfather, Johnny Neighbors, Sr. was a Jackson County Deputy Sheriff and his uncle Johnny Neighbors, Jr. was a Randolph County Deputy Sheriff. In addition he is a volunteer firefighter for the Reyno Fire Department, serves as Reyno’s Constable and as of April 1, he has been hired at the Randolph County E-911 Coordinator. Last, but certainly not least, he is an ordained minister serving as a chaplain for the inmates at the county jail and pastor of Starting Point at Pine Grove Baptist Church.
