Five Rivers Shooting Complex set to open soon
The Five Rivers Shooting Complex on Pyburn Extended in Pocahontas, is set to open to the public soon, becoming a reality after years of community efforts. According to Mayor Keith Sutton, the complex is a state-of-the-art facility built from the labor of many residents who have long been wanting a safe and comfortable place to shoot.

Rotary seeking volunteers for improvement event
Volunteers are needed to participate in the Rotary Club of Pocahontas’s spring community improvement event on Saturday, May 6 from 8 a.m. to noon. The cleanup is being held in conjunction with the Keep America Beautiful Great American Cleanup in Arkansas (GAmC), the annual spring statewide litter-pickup campaign promoted by Keep Arkansas Beautiful (KAB).
National Loyalty Day
On May 1, Americans will celebrate National Loyalty Day to reaffirm their loyalty to the United States and American freedom. Every US President since 1955 has designated May 1 as Loyalty Day. The day serves as an opportunity for Americans to reflect on their heritage and unite around the country’s basic ideals. The importance of loyalty and freedom, especially for those serving in the military, is highlighted in the messages shared by each president. While opinions may differ on other topics, the central message of unity remains constant. To support American freedom, the VFW Auxiliary Americanism Committee encourages everyone to fly their flags on May 1 in observance of Loyalty Day.
Family Reunion planned for Melton Family
The annual Melton-Peoples-Fowler-Mack reunion is scheduled for Saturday, August 29, 2023 at the Maynard Community Building. Lunch will be pot luck around 12:00 noon. Bring a favorite food and a utensil to serve your food. Bring drinks for your family. All dinner ware will be provided (plates, eating utensils, napkins, etc.)
Community memorial service to be held
Pocahontas Nursing and Rehab Center will be hosting a memorial service on April 28 at 2 p.m. to provide the community with an opportunity to honor their loved ones they have lost.
Kiwanis Club hosts golf tournament
The Pocahontas Kiwanis Club is seeking support for its upcoming 18th Annual Kiwanis Golf Tournament. The event will take place on Friday, April 28 at the Rolling Hills Country Club. The 2-person scramble promises to be an exciting and well-attended tournament, offering great value to the golfers and sponsors.

Arkansas Pie Festival is this Saturday
Graycen Bigger, a Pocahontas community leader and Executive Director of the Northeast Arkansas Regional Intermodal Authority is one of the co-founders of the Arkansas Pie Festival, a beloved event held annually in Cherokee Village. The festival, which started in 2019, was put on hold for two years due to COVID but is back and better than ever for its third year.

Ian Crawford
Ian Victor Crawford, 18, of Pocahontas passed away April 16, 2023, in Pocahontas. Ian was born August 17, 2004, in Newport to Steven Chad Crawford and the late Charity Michelle Higginbotham Crawford.
