Mark on Markets

Today we are announcing the start of a game. Specifically, the stock market game. I have recently been discussing this topic with some friends, while at the same time read a Facebook post about one of my cousins winning a stock market competition at his high school. Shout out to Matthew Kueter!

Blast from the past…1966

BIG ENOUGH FOR 2-TON TESSIE! --- The management of Pocahontas Dollar Store said they didn’t remember ordering the dress which is being displayed above, but when it arrived with a shipment of dresses they decided to place the garment on one of their dress racks and offer it for sale. The “frock” is a Size 60! Saleswomen in the store stated that it was certainly the largest dress they had ever seen, and talked two customers into posing with them behind the garment. Mrs. Steveson and Mrs. Cline happened to be shopping in the store and agreed to pose with the two salesladies. More like a tent than a dress, one look at the garment is enough to make even a slightly overweight woman start counting calories!

We all know what it is like to try to focus with a growling stomach. Children cannot learn when they are hungry. Pocahontas Schools has a backpack program that sends healthy food home to kids in need on the weekend, but what happens when a student is hungry while they are at school? Thanks to a partnership between the First United Methodist Church of Pocahontas and the Pocahontas School District, Pocahontas students in junior and high school buildings know they can stop by their counselor’s office to grab a healthy snack.
