Five Rivers Shooting Sports Complex logo unveiled
A logo has been chosen to represent the upcoming Five Rivers Shooting Sports Complex. In late 2022, the City of Pocahontas solicited logo designs for the upcoming Five Rivers Shooting Sports Complex.
Lady Redskin Basketball
The Pocahontas Redskins Senior Girls, in a Tuesday night game, hosted the Southside Senior Lady Southerners at Wear Schoonover Fieldhouse. The Lady Redskins came close to upsetting Southside but lost 34-32 in an outstanding effort. Southside was ahead 9-5 at end of the first quarter and 17-9 at half. The Lady Redskins outscored Southside in the third quarter 13-5 to force a 22-22 tie at end of the quarter. The Lady Southerners, sensing an upset, scored 12 points to the Lady Redskins 10 points in the fourth quarter to win the game 34-32. Southside, going in the game, was ranked #4 in Class 4A with an 8-0 record in conference play and 15-3 record overall. Jordyn Priest led the Lady Redskins in scoring with 15 points, followed by Abby Alpin with 7 points, Lauren Berger had 6 points and Paige Massey and Lauren Chester had 2 points each.
Sloan-Hendrix Basketball
The Sloan-Hendrix Greyhounds hosted conference foe Cedar Ridge Timberwolves in Tuesday night games at Bill McCurley Gymnasium on the Sloan-Hendrix Campus. The Junior Boys started the night with their second win of the season over the Junior Timberwolves Boys 64- 32 The game was decided in the first half with the Hounds leading 12-7 at end of the first quarter and 36-16 at half. Hudson Rorex led in scoring with 29 points, followed by Dallas Durham with 13 points, Corey Sullens had 9 points, Colton Sexton threw in 3 points, and Wyatt Ring, Cole McCall, Brandon Truitt, Owen Wheeler and Caden Hickman had 2 points each.
History of the Lawrence County Tournament
If you are a fan of high school basketball, Imboden is the place to be the next month. There will be three basketball tournaments held in the Bill McCurley Gymnasium on the Sloan-Hendrix Campus during that span of time. The 100th Lawrence County Tournament started last Saturday and will continue thru Saturday of this week. The 2A Junior District Tournament will be held the week of Feb 6-11 and the 2A Senior Central Regional Tournament the week of Feb 13-18. Sloan-Hendrix (2A-2) is paired with 2A-5 teams for the Central Regional Tournament. There are going to be some of the top teams in the state competing in this tournament. Sloan-Hendrix Senior Boys are ranked #1 in state rankings and conference rival Marshall is ranked #6. Bigelow from 2A-5 is ranked #3 and Cutter Star from the same conference is ranked #9. The Senior Girls also have some outstanding teams involved. Mount Vernon-Enola (2A-2) is ranked #1, Conway Christian from 2A-5 is #3 and Bigelow from same conference is ranked #4. As a bonus East Poinsett County and Class 4A Wynne are also scheduled to compete with the Sloan-Hendrix Senior Boys the week of Jan. 30.
Redskin Basketball
The Pocahontas Redskins Senior Boys were defeated by the Southside Southerners 48-45 in a Tuesday night conference game played at Wear Schoonover Fieldhouse. The Senior Redskins battled a tough 4A conference for into the last quarter for the third game in row to again suffer a close loss. The Southerners led 1411 at end of the first quarter and the teams were tied 23-23 at the half and 34-34 at the of end of the third quarter. Southside outscored Pocahontas 1411 in the last quarter to win the game 48-45. Harrison Carter and Bryce Mason shared the scoring lead with 11 points each, followed by DJ Coffey and Connor Baker with 9 points each, Will Mason had 3 points, and Colby Mahon threw in 2 points.
Petit Jurors for Jan/Feb 2023 term of Circuit Court
Circuit Clerk, Debbie Wise, has announced the following named persons were selected, in accordance with Arkansas Code Annotated 16-32-105, to serve as Petit Jurors at the Jaunary 2022 term of Randolph County Circuit Court. They are ordered to appear before said Court at 8:30 a.m. on the first day of said term, which will be on the Monday, January 30, 2023 to serve as Petit Jurors.

Juvenile suspects caught in Harps robbery
On Jan. 21, the Pocahontas Police Department was dispatched to Harps in reference to a break in that occurred during the previous night. Officer KC Starr arrived and made contact with the store manager Chad Emerson who stated that at 2:17a.m., video cameras captured two individuals trying to gain entry into the back of the store.
