Simonton benefit November 5

There will be a BBQ Dinner served on November 5, 2022, at the American Legion in Pocahontas, starting at 6:00 PM to benefit the Simonton family. A live auction and bake sale will follow the BBQ dinner. There will also be a gun raffle. Tickets are on sale for a chance to win a Winchester 12-gauge SXP, which was sponsored by M&M Farm and Home. Ticket price is $1 a piece or $6 for 5. (Do not have to be present to win).

Powhatan Ghost Tours Oct 22, 29

Join us for a Ghost Walk and get introduced to the spirits and spine-tingling tales of ghostly happenings! Powhatan Historic State Park is home to several ghost stories, folktales, and legends. Is the courthouse really haunted? What makes the rattling in the jail? Did a ball of light just float by? These ghostly tales may very well be hauntingly true, or more likely just flights of fancy. Join our park staff on October 22nd or 29th to find out! Space is limited; reservations are required. PPSD Parent/Teacher Conferences

Pocahontas Public Schools will conduct parent/ teacher conferences for students in grades 7-9 only on Tuesday, October 18, 2022. Parents are encouraged to call the school and make an appointment to meet with their child’s teachers on this date. Pocahontas Public Schools will conduct parent/teacher conferences for students in grades K-6 and 10-12 only,onThursday, October 20, 2022. Parents are encouraged to call their child’sschool and make an appointment to meet with their child’s teachers on this date. School will be in regular session on both dates. There will be no early dismissal.

Pocahontas welcomes a new

Newly appointed and only the second female postmaster for Pocahontas Crystal Daniels said she intends to stay in this position at the Pocahontas United State Postal Service (USPS) facility for the duration of her career. “It feels like home,” she said, “The clerks and carriers here are very knowledgeable and really take care of their customers,” making the Pocahontas post office an enjoyable location to work.

Around the Kitchen Table with Nanny

I had a wonderful time last Saturday. I spent the day at a family Reunion of my Fathers ancestors and got to meet for the first time some of the younger generations. What fun it was to reminisce with older cousins and getting acquainted with the younger ones. Reconnecting with family members I had not seen for so long, and of course a table laden with all kinds of wonderful foods. That’s always something everyone looks forward to and believe me no one left there hungry.

Looking Back….20 years ago October 10, 2002 Mayor and police chief to appear on NPR program Representatives from the National Public Radio (NPR) show “Marketplace” were in Pocahontas to learn more about the economic situation in rural Arkansas. The NPR representatives met with Pocahontas Mayor John Patrick and Pocahontas Police Chief Doug Cousins to learn more specifically how the current economic climate is affecting small town police departments.
